摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for manufacturing a polyester permitting the manufacture of a polyester having excellent thermal stability without requiring long hours for a polycondensation reaction, and a method for manufacturing a polyester with good productivity using the catalyst. SOLUTION: The catalyst for manufacturing the polyester comprises at least a silicon atom, at least one atom selected among Lewis acid elements and at least one atom selected among Lewis base elements, where the average electronegativity calculated on the electronegativity of each atomic ion of the atom selected among the Lewis acid elements and the atom selected among the Lewis base elements is 9-15. The method for manufacturing the polyester comprises polycondensing a dicarboxylic acid component mainly composed of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or an ester-forming derivative thereof with a diol component via an esterification reaction or a transesterification reaction using the catalyst for manufacturing the polyester.
