PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speech signal reproducing apparatus for preventing auditory difficulties, such as hardness of hearing, by avoiding a note with high volume from hitting the ear of a user of headphone suddenly while the maneuverability of apparatus is maintained. SOLUTION: When a headphone 9 is inserted into a headphone jack 8, the signal H1 for the sake is entered into a signal generating circuit 31. When the speech input level is over a prescribed threshold and the value of an electronic volume 20 is over a prescribed value, the signal S1 for the sake is entered in the signal generating circuit 31. In the signal generating circuit 31, a protective signal Q is generated to a muting driver 21, a display unit 2 and the like, and a process of reducing 20dB of volume level is carried out when the signal H1 and the signal S1 are both entered.
