PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical magnetic recording head in which it is easy to make the shape seen from the opposed surface side of a recording medium of a main magnetic pole a roughly trapezoidal shape whose width of an auxiliary magnetic side is narrow and to provide the forming method of its main magnetic pole. SOLUTION: In a vertical magnetic recording head H in which an auxiliary magnetic pole layer 4 and a main magnetic pole layer 5 are stacked by holding a non-magnetic layer 7 between them and whose shape seen from the opposed surface of the recording medium of a main pole magnetic layer 5 forms a roughly trapezoidal shape whose width becomes narrower toward the auxiliary magnetic layer 4, a volume raising layer 10 which is non-magnetic and conductive and forms the trapezoidal shape together with the main magnetic pole layer 5 is formed below the layer 5.
