PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an interpolation arithmetic processing time shorter than a conventional manner without causing the non-uniformity of a noise. SOLUTION: In this image processing method for generating interpolation pixels and interpolation arithmetic processed image data by applying interpolation arithmetic processing to digital image data, a step is provided in which smoothing processing is applied to lattice point pixels necessary for generating the interpolation arithmetic processed image, and then the interpolation pixels are generated from the lattice point pixels so that the fluctuation of the definition of the interpolation arithmetic processed image data can be reduced. The smoothing processing is filter processing for multiplying the lattice point pixels and their surrounding pixels by prescribed coefficients, and the prescribed coefficients are weight functions changing in accordance with the positions of the interpolation pixels generated from the lattice point pixels.
