PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin for toner which does not generate irritating odor under heating during melting and kneading processes in a toner production and in the copying process. SOLUTION: The polyester resin comprises (a) acid components including an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or at least one of its lower alkyl esters and (b) alcohol components, and the content of acetaldehyde, propionaldehyde and decomposition products of these in the polyester resin is≤100 ppm.
