摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal element, with which picture quality is improved, by eliminating an adverse effect of field through in alignment treatment of a one-sided V shaped liquid crystal and coordinating characteristics of aligned regions obtained by a voltage with a first polarity and a voltage with a second polarity. SOLUTION: In a transition process of a liquid crystal from cholesteric phase to chiral smectic phase, a potential to turn on an active element is imparted to all gate lines. A first DC potential is applied to first source lines, a second DC potential with a polarity different from that for the first source lines is applied to second source lines and a third DC voltage is applied to a counter electrode. The absolute value of the difference between the first and third voltages and the absolute value of the difference between the second and third voltages are made identical. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
