The machine has a fluid tank (11) with discharge section (14), a heater (12) for the fluid, and a cooler (13) to cool the steam evaporated by the heater. The cooler is positioned below the heater in direction of gravity. The expansion pressure of the steam displaces flowing medium to generate mechanical energy, and the cooler cools and liquefies the steam, to displace the fluid behind the tank due to self-generated vibration. An excitation device (15) located next to the heater periodically varies the force applied to the fluid in the tank. The excitation force is the reaction force of compression of a gas contained in a gas-tight housing.
