The circuit has at least one switching device coupled to a source (305) of a first d.c. voltage (36V), a first connector set (335,345,355) coupled to a switch (360) and a second connector set (330,340,350) coupled to an a.c. load (310) with at least one phase. The second connector set has at least one connection coupled to at least one switching device (331-352) that is pulsed in response to the switch closing to provide a reduced medium voltage from the d.c. voltage source to a d.c. device and at least one switch provides energy to the d.c. load via the second connector set. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) an electrical system with a d.c. source, an a.c. starter/generator mechanism and a cold starting mechanism (b) an electric circuit with a switch and connector sets (c) an electrical system with voltage sources, an a.c. machine with at least one phase for converting rotational energy of a motor into a.c. current and a circuit connected to voltage sources, a.c. machine and a switch (d) and a method of providing reduced medium voltage.
