PURPOSE: A transfer structure in a digital cross connection system and a method for operating the same are provided to remove, repair, and insert the circuit board of a fault switch in the normal operation state of a 3-layered digital cross connection system. CONSTITUTION: In a 3-layered duplicated digital cross connection system, an MFU(Multi Function Unit) judges whether each of the working and standby switches are transmitting signals normally(S100). In case that signals are not being transmitted normally, the MFU transmits a fault generation information signal to the third switches(S110). Each of the third switches, receiving the fault generation information signal, transmits a normal path information signal to each of the first switches(S120). Receiving the normal path information signal, each of the first switches executes compulsory transfer to the normal path and transmits signals to the compulsorily transferred normal path(S130).
