IMAGE DATA PROCESSING DEVICE AND METHOD

PURPOSE: To convert an ordinary image into a sketch image. CONSTITUTION: A memory circuit 12 stores the image data of a remarked image element and peripheral image elements. A high order bit extracting circuit 14 extracts the data of high order 4-bit from each image data. A histogram circuit 16 creates the histogram of the extracted 4-bit data. A data processing circuit 17 refers the histogram, replaces a maximum value of the number of image elements of the same level with the image data of the remarked image element, and outputs the same. A digit matching circuit 18 converts the data output from the data processing circuit 17 into the 8-bit data and outputs the same.
