IC CARD, READER, AND ACCESS METHOD

PURPOSE: An IC card, a reader, and an access method are provided to offer a medium realizing a smart card performing a security/certification function or a transportation card, and a memory card functioning a mobile sub storage on a single card. CONSTITUTION: An EEPROM(Electronically Erasable Programmable ROM) in a smart chip is divided into a security/certification data storing region(54) and an external data storing region(55). If an external terminal is approached through a certification protocol of the general smart card, a CPU(51) in the smart chip performs the security/certification by responding to the certification protocol. If the external terminal tries to access the data of the external data storing region through a serial I/O(Input/Output) interface(52) using a contact terminal pad(53), the CPU permits read/write of the data. Thus, the data of the security/certification data storing region is accessed by only the certification protocol.
