<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a phase difference film having optical characteristics different from conventional one efficiently and with industrial advantage. <P>SOLUTION: A thermoplastic resin film is preheated within a temperature range Tp satisfying a relation: (1) Tg<Tp≤(Tg+100°C) [wherein Tg is glass transition temperature of a thermoplastic resin and Tp is preheating temperature]. The film is subjected to uniaxial stretching within a temperature range Ts satisfying a relation: (2) Tg<Ts≤(Tg+100°C) [wherein Ts is stretching temperature] at a deformation velocity of 150 to 1000 %/minute and with 2 to 3 times of stretching ratio so as not to cause length contraction in a direction perpendicular to a stretching axis. Then the film is subjected to heat treatment within a temperature range Ths satisfying a relation: (3) (Ts-50°C)≤Ths≤Ts [wherein Ths is heat treating temperature]. Thereby the phase difference film having 50 to 300nm retardation value in a plane and ratio of (retardation value in a plane) /(retardation value in a thickness direction) of 0.5 to 1.8 is manufactured. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
