摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system which is formed with a second lens plate made as small as possible by using an integrator, to realize a projection display device which facilitates designing of optical paths and designing of a projection lens, is small-sized and can display bright images with a high grade by using such lighting system in the projection display device, and to provide a projection display device which is bright and has high efficiency of utilizing light by employing the configuration to permit use of a microlens array to improve the effective aperture ratio of a liquid crystal panel. <P>SOLUTION: The first lens plate 301 and second lens plate 302 constituting the integrator comprise rectangular lenses arranged in a matrix form respectively. The rectangular lenses constituting the lens plate 301 have the shapes analogous with the shape of the liquid crystal panel 109 and lens optical axes 303 of the respective rectangular lenses are shifted in a transverse direction. Accordingly, light source images 105 formed on the lens plate 302 are compressed only in the transverse direction and are densely arranged. The rectangular lenses constituting the lens plate 302 are made nearly square shape and the lens optical axes 303 of the respective rectangular lenses are so shifted as to superpose and form the images of the rectangular lenses of the lens plate 301 on the panel 109. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
