PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acoustic material having high durability, not breaking the surrounding environment, capable of applying coloring harmonized with the surrounding environment, having good drainage in the case causing water absorption of the material by raining, etc., capable of constantly keeping reduction effect of high noise and being widely useable for soundproof walls, acoustic members such as acoustic apparatus installed under floor plate of elevated bridge as well as buildings and automobiles. SOLUTION: The acoustic material is composed of a synthetic fiber nonwoven fabric block formed by at least entangling a flame-retardant fiber such as vinylidene chloride-vinyl chloride copolymer fiber, acrylonitrile-vinyl chloride copolymer fiber or acrylonitrile-vinylidene chloride copolymer fiber with a fiber having a melting point lower than that of the flame-retardant fiber and binding the flame-retardant fiber to the fiber by melting the fiber having the lower melting point. In the acoustic material, a fiber in which water repellent finish is applied on a fiber surface is used as the flame-retardant fiber. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
