PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the smooth decomposition of garbage regardless of time. SOLUTION: In a garbage disposal apparatus, garbage is put into a treating vessel housing a base material and microorganisms and the garbage is subjected to decomposition treatment by the microorganisms by agitating the garbage together with the base material and the microorganisms. A substance for fixing the substance for suppressing the activation of the microorganisms is mixed into the base material and the microorganisms. An organic acid which is solid at ordinary temperature and/or chitosan or its derivative as the substance for promoting the activity of the microorganisms and, in addition thereto, the substance to decompose cellulose or the microorganisms to form the substance to decompose the same are mixed into the base material and the microorganisms.
