A continuous web (3) is transferred at its full width from a card take-off roller (4) to a conveyor (5) using a perforated suction roller (6). The suction roller has an internal narrow suction slot (7) that can be adjusted in flow velocity and position. It is independent of the remaining suction region (8), which extends to about a quarter or a third of the roller periphery. A roller (9) at an adjustable distance above the fiber web assists the web transfer by creating an air cushion. The conveyor (5) runs about 10% faster than the peripheral speed of the take-off roller (4). The conveyor (5) can be linked to a collecting conveyor for several webs, the transfer being assisted by a suction roller with a limited suction region.
