The device is shaped like an inflatable cap-shaped air bed (14) and temporarily fastened to the vehicle (10) so as to at least protect its roof (12). It also has inflatable side sections (20) projecting downwards on all sides from the roof-protection part around the vehicle body and fastened to by elastic tapes (16) and hooks (18). The device is inflated by a gas generator with manually operated gas cartridge. It may have a hose with shut-off part connected to the valve of one vehicle wheel.
