<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new optical recording medium having the feature of a write once optical recording medium, of which the effective utilization of resources or environmental protection is attained. <P>SOLUTION: This optical recording medium is provided with a substrate 11 and recording layers 14 arranged on the substrate 11 and a recording mark can be formed on a specified area of the recording layers 14 of the medium with the irradiation with laser beams, and the recording layers 14 can have the 1st initial state where the irreversible recording mark is formed by irradiation with the laser beams and the 2nd initial state where the reversible recording mark is formed by irradiation with the laser beams. By this arrangement, since the optical recording medium is utilized as the write once type when the unrecorded area among the recording layers 14 is in the 1st initial state while utilized as the rewritable optical recording medium when this area is in the 2nd initial state, the re-utilization of the optical recording medium as the rewritable optical recording medium is attained even after it is utilized as the write once optical recording medium. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
