<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tension device of a winding machine capable of controlling the tension of a wire to fixed tension corresponding to winding conditions even for the rapid change of the rotation speed of a winding machine main body, and to provide a controller capable of accurate and stable brake control. <P>SOLUTION: This tension device 1 of the winding machine is provided with the controller 3 constituted of a CPU unit 4, an I/O unit 5 and an NC controller 6. The CPU unit 4 is provided with a pulse converter 40 for pulsatively converting a tension command voltage 44 to be the threshold application voltage of a hysteresis brake 2, a degaussing processor 41 for degaussing residual magnetization accumulated from the hysteresis brake 2, and a timer 42 for measuring degaussing time.
