PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gear shift lever device having a variable select lever ratio for controlling all gear shift speeds of a six-speed transmission while maintaining a gear shift lever turning angle during a selecting operation at a level of a conventional gear shift lever device by varying the select lever ratio as the ratio of the select lever turning angle to the gear shift lever turning angle during the selection of the gear shift lever by utilizing most of operational mechanisms of the conventional gear shift lever device without any major design change. SOLUTION: The gear shift lever device having the variable select lever ratio comprises an extension part provided on a select arm of a gear shift lever, a select lever which is movably coupled on the extension part and simultaneously connected to change and deliver the rotational direction of the select arm, and a straight moving means to move the select lever straight selectively along the projecting direction of the select arm.
