<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double-deck elevator capable of easily and securely going to a terminal story even if there is no evacuation space of a car above the uppermost story and below the lowermost story. <P>SOLUTION: A landing place button 8 for going to the terminal story (in this case, for going to the uppermost story) is provided in addition to an ordinary landing place button 7 in a landing place at each story. When a passenger who is waiting operates the landing place button 8 for going to the uppermost story, the car capable of going to the uppermost story, namely, the upper car 3a is selected among the upper and lower cars 3a, 3b. This upper car 3a is arranged at the story where the landing place button 8 for going to the uppermost story is operated.
