PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide toilet sand for pets which has excellent combination of swelling power (volume) and a swelling rate and improved water absorption properties, caking properties, deodorization properties, etc. SOLUTION: This toilet sand for pets comprises granular formed material of active bentonite. The active bentonite is obtained by treating acid white clay or bentonite consisting essentially of montmorillonite with an alkali hydroxide and/or an alkali silicate. When 0.05 wt.% of a dispersion in salt water and 0.05 wt.% of a dispersion in pure water are prepared by dispersing the toilet sand into 1 wt.% of salt water and pure water, respectively and the values of zeta-potential (unit: mV) measured in 0.05 wt.% of the dispersion are Z<SB>1</SB>(in salt water) and Z<SB>0</SB>(in pure water), both the values are minus values and their absolute values are ¾Z<SB>1</SB>¾≥40 and ¾Z<SB>0</SB>¾≥35.
