PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a washing machine which realizes detection of the quantity of washing not affected by the fluctuation of voltage or frequency, by a program of a microcomputer, without adding a fresh circuit. SOLUTION: In the washing machine, the quantity of the washing in a wash tub is detected by a washing quantity sensor 10 and, based on the detected quantity of the washing, a triac 2 is put under a switching control so as to control driving of a washing motor 1. A zero crossing detecting circuit 3 detecting a zero crossing point of a supply voltage is provided and the triac 2 is put under the switching control at a timing synchronized with the zero crossing point detected by the circuit 3. Herein an error in the detected quantity of the washing due to the voltage fluctuation and/or the frequency fluctuation of the supply voltage is corrected on the basis of an output of a transistor Tr1 that constitutes the detecting circuit 3 and switches in the vicinity of the zero crossing of the supply voltage.
