PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a large number of reflecting surfaces of a polygon mirror, if used for the scanning optical system, leads to upsizing of the scanning optical system and scanning image display apparatus. SOLUTION: The scanning display optical system is provided with a first scanning means 3 for scanning the light from a light source 4a to a first direction and a scanning means 5 for scanning the light from the first scanning means to a second direction different from the first direction and is provided with a lightguide optical system 2 including the at least one reflecting surfaces for guiding the light from the first scanning means to the second scanning means between the first scanning means and the second scanning means.
