PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method to detect linking deviation through which a linking deviation portion of an optical recording medium is quickly and accurately detected. SOLUTION: Linking deviation is detected by irradiating light beams onto information recording tracks of the medium, receiving the reflected light beams of the light beams that are irradiating the tracks, generating optical detection signals, detecting synchronization signals from the optical detection signals, discriminating to determine whether the existing interval of the synchronization signals is out of a prescribed interval range or not and detecting the deviation based on the discrimination result.
