PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a length measuring device that accurately measures coating lengths, cycle lengths and a difference between coating start positions on an obverse and a reverse surface independently of a slip between a base sheet and a driving roller and of rotational accuracy of the driving roller, and a coated medium manufacturing device that has the length measuring device. SOLUTION: The length measuring device comprises a position detection part for detecting longitudinal coating start positions or coating end positions on a base sheet coated with liquid, an image detection part for detecting coating statuses of liquid coating coated surfaces as images, and an arithmetic part for converting pixel numbers of edges of the coatings to distances. The coated medium manufacturing device comprises the length measuring device and, if a defect occurs, corrects manufacturing conditions. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
