The present application relates to an isolated or recombinant nucleic acid encoding a aro gene cluster of Streptococcus suis or a gene fragment derived thereof, a nucleic acid probe or primer derived from this nucleic acid and a diagnostic test using the probe or primer of the present invention. The present application also relates to a mutant avirulent Streptococcus strain having a mutation of a aro gene cluster, compositions comprising this mutant strain for immunizing a mammalian host against Streptococcal diseases and uses thereof.
