PURPOSE: Provided is a lithium secondary battery, which does not need a bottom plate to reduce the manufacturing cost and the volume of the whole battery and to improve the function of a protecting device. CONSTITUTION: The lithium secondary battery comprises: an electrode assembly(10) comprising a cathode plate(11) and an anode plate(12) that are alternately wound, and a separator(13) between the cathode plate and the anode plate; a case(20) for enclosing the electrode assembly(10); a cap assembly(30) for sealing the top opening of the case(20): and a safety device(50) directly attached to the bottom of the case(20) and comprising a protection device(52) for interrupting the introduction of over-current. Preferably, the protecting device(52) is a PTC device.
