<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode with a low cost, a high utilization factor of an active material, and high productivity, ant to provide a battery having the electrode. <P>SOLUTION: A metal plate 51 having the specified structure is used as a substrate of the electrode. The metal plate 51 has many projections formed so as to mutually project from the surface and the back. Each projection 54 is formed in truncated pyramid in which the area of an upper bottom 52 is narrower than the area of a lower bottom 53. A hole 56 having a blanking burr 55 blanked in almost truncated pyramid toward the lower bottom direction is formed in the upper bottom 52 of each projection so that the shape of an upper bottom side opening part 52a becomes a polygon. When the area of the upper bottom 52 of the projection 54 is represented by c, the area of the upper bottom side opening part is by s, the height of the blanking burr is by s, and the thickness of the whole substrate before compression is by d, the relation of c>s≥0.1mm<SP>2</SP>and 0.2≤h/d≤0.95 is applied. After an electrode mix layer is formed on the surface of the metal plate, the electrode mix is compressed so as to satisfy the relation of 0.2≤(compression ratio)≤0.95. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
