PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element having a high shutoff effect for water/moisture and oxygen and capable of maintaining a stable light emitting characteristic for a long period of time. SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent element is structured so that a laminate 9 formed by laying at least a positive electrode 2, an organic light emitting layer 3, and a negative electrode 4 in this order is formed on a base board 1. On the laminate 9, a first inorganic sealing film 5, a resin sealing film 6, and a second inorganic sealing film 7 are laminated in this order, and the thickness of the resin sealing film 6 is set 1-10μm. This resin sealing film with the thickness 1-10μm allows the first 5 and second inorganic sealing films 7 to exert a high shutoff effect for moisture and oxygen. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
