PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a good reproducing signal on a magnetic recording medium to which information is magnetically transferred from a magnetic transfer master carrier. SOLUTION: In the master carrier 3 having a concave and convex pattern on the surface corresponding to the information to be transferred to a magnetic recording medium 2, the center average roughness of the part of the surface of the maser carrier 3 in contact with the magnetic recording medium 2 is set to 0.3nm or higher to 10.0nm or lower.
