PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce medium noise by micronizing the magnetic particles of a perpendicular magnetic recording layer. SOLUTION: This medium is provided with at least a nonmagnetic substrate, a soft magnetic lining layer, a soft magnetic substrate layer, and a perpendicular magnetic recording layer. Further, the three-layer structure of a first soft magnetic layer, a middle layer and a second soft magnetic layer as an oxide layer and a soft magnetic substrate layer on the soft magnetic lining layer, and a crystalline or preferably Ni oriented control layer between the soft magnetic substrate layer and the perpendicular magnetic recording layer are combined to be applied.
