PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller of a disk drive device for returning more data from an error state of a reading operation to the disk drive device, and to provide a method for controlling the disk drive device, a program for controlling the disk drive device and a recording medium. SOLUTION: In a SA1, an address for starting read is set in the disk drive device, in a SA2, read is started, and in a SA3, it is decided whether an error occurs in a reading operation. If the error occurs, in a SA4, it is decided whether resetting of a read start address in a SA5 is carried out by prescribed number of times or whether a prescribed time from the start of the reading operation has passed, and the reading operation is stopped in such a case. Meanwhile, if the resetting has not been performed by the prescribed number of times yet or the prescribed time has not passed yet, in the SA5, the address for making the disk drive device start reading is reset in an address ahead of the currently set address by one sector, processing is subsequently returned to the SA2 and a reading operation is started from the reset address.
