PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a small-sized zoom lens system for a compact camera which has an about×3.5 zoom ratio with two-group constitution. SOLUTION: The zoom system comprises a 1st positive lens group and a 2nd negative lens group in this order from the object side, and satisfies a conditional expression (1): 4.5<f<SB>T</SB>/F<SB>1G</SB><5.5, where f<SB>T</SB>is the focal length at the long-focal-length end and f<SB>1G</SB>is the focal length of the 1st lens group.
