PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the structure of a cooling unit of a display element of a projector which has high cooling efficiency and small deterioration in performance in a long period and is simple and high in silencing effect. SOLUTION: In the projector which has the reflection type display element 7, a heat sink 16 is fitted to the back 14 of the reflection type display element 7 and a Sirocco fan 21 and a louvre 31 are arranged nearby the heat sink 16; and an air passage 25 for guiding cooling air 32 blown out of a blow outlet 23 of the Sirocco fan 21 is provided and fins 18 of the heat sink 16 are arranged in the air passage 25, so that the cooling air 32 exiting from the air passage 25 passes through the louvre 31 to be discharged from a housing 11.
