PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device capable of preventing uneven distribution of particles in image writing by an external electrode. SOLUTION: In an image display medium 12, a part between a display substrate 14 and a rear substrate 16 is divided by partition members 20 into a plurality of cells 18 and particles 22 are encapsulated into respective cells 18. Synchronization marks 30 corresponding to respective cells 18 are formed on the display substrate 14 along the direction of an arrow A. A voltage applying means 28 moves an electrode head 24 on the display substrate 14 in the direction of the arrow A and applies voltage according to image information between an electrode 25 and a rear electrode when the synchronization mark 30 is detected in synchronism with the passage of the partition member 20 by a detecting sensor 27.
