966,772. Pipe joints. MONTAPLAST G.m.b.H. Oct. 18, 1961 [Aug. 16, 1961], No. 37398/61. Heading F2G. In a pipe joint for preferably circular pipes 4, 7 of relatively hard, synthetic thermoplastic material and in which the outer diameter of the inner pipe is larger, before the connection of the pipes, than inside diameter of the outer pipe, the joint is made by driving one pipe into the other utilizing the elastic properties of the material of the pipes, and a sealing medium or adhesive, initially in a fluid or plastic condition, is injected under pressure into one or more annular spaces 7, 8, so as to fill the latter, between the pipes and through one or more openings 11 in the wall of the outer pipe. As shown in Fig. 1, the pipes are formed with annular ridges 5, 6 and 10; alternatively the ridges are helical in form. In modifications: (a) the wall of the outer pipe is zig-zag or undulating in longitudinal cross-section, (b) the pipes are connected with a ball-and-socket formation, Fig. 7, or co-operating frusto-conical formations, Fig. 8. |
