The pressure of fuel in the pressure-limiting valve (60) may overcome a spring of moderate strength using piston with two parts of different diameter. It allows excess fuel to escape to a low- pressure reservoir (24). Control valves (54,59) are connected to a control circuit (56) to regulate flow of high-pressure fuel from the working space of the high-pressure pump (10). Fuel flows through channel (50) to the injector valve (12), to lift the valve body (28) and allow fuel to flow through the injection nozzles (32). The valve is spring-loaded (44) toward its closed position, and has a small control piston (48) and a cylinder with a line running through a working space (49) via throttles (57,58).
