The heat pump energy storage method has a 3-way valve (3) between the heat pump (2) and a pair of heat exchangers (4,5), one of which is contained within a drinking water reservoir (1), with thermosensor control of the 3-way valve for maintaining a constant drop in the circulation temperature of the heat transfer medium during heat output from the other heat exchanger. An Independent claim for a device for storage of heat pump energy is also included.
