PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the calculation accuracy of a branch metric in applying Viterbi decoding to an input signal sequence having elements wherein a correlation with each other is to exist. SOLUTION: The Viterbi decoder for applying likelihood decoding to a signal sequence that is transmitted after being subjected to convolution encoding so that at least 2 bits in an N-bit output have a correlation at an encoding rate of 1/N (N is an integer of 2 or over), includes: an input correction section 10 for using the correlation to correct at least one element value among elements of the input signal wherein a correlation is to exist; and a branch metric calculation section 13 for calculating the branch metric on the basis of an expected value from an expected value generating section 11 and the input signal after the correction from the input correction section 10.
