PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration of image quality as much as possible during reproduction of images when digital video signals are put out at a clock pulse having a frequency different from a sampling frequency. SOLUTION: An electronic endoscope comprises an image sensor 12, an analog/digital converter 22, and a pixel number converting circuit 28. The image sensor 12 generates an analog video signal from an optical image of an object and the analog/digital converter 22 converts the analog video signals from the image sensor 12 to digital video signals sequentially at a predetermined sampling frequency. The pixel number converting circuit 28 is provided with a coefficient calculating means. When the sampling frequency is higher than the clock pulse frequency, the coefficient calculating means thins out pixels and reflects the thinned pixels on the digital video signals processed by thinning out. When the sampling frequency is lower than the clock pulse frequency, the coefficient calculating means calculates a pixel number for interpolation on the basis of the digital video signals and interpolates pixels.
