A computer system includes an asynchronous messaging-and-queuing system; and a storage area network having a storage area network controller; and the storage area network controller includes control means to control a message queue on behalf of one or more queue managers, which may be heterogeneous.The storage area network controller may also include means for controlling persistence of messages, transactional control means, such as a syncpoint coordinator, and data integrity control means, such as a lock manager.
