1,183,747. Animal feeding apparatus. J. A. SMITH. 3 Oct., 1967 [3 Nov., 1966], No. 44939/67. Heading B8S. [Also in Division A1] Solid particulate foodstuff for animals, birds or fish is dispensed by apparatus Consisting of a drum 1 containing a shoot 18 and a shovel 21, the drum being rotatable and the shovel being effective to pick up food within the drum and deliver it to the shoot whence it is dispersed through an aperture 19 at the rate of one shovel-full or less for each rotation of the drum. The inlet end of the shoot is adjustably part-closable to regulate the proportion of a shovel-full which will be dispensed. It is envisaged that the drum's speed of rotation will be one revolution in eight hours. The means for part-closing the shoot inlet is a rectangular tube 20 surrounding the also rectangular shoot, the tube 20 having a top plate 31 partly covering it. The shovel 21 overlies that part of the shoot inlet not covered by the plate 31 and is attached to a weight 22 hanging freely in the shoot. The drum is rotated by a power source 10 through reduction gearing 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4. In the form shown which is designed for feeding fish in an aquarium, the power source 10 is a water-wheel driven by water which is supplied by way of a filter- and-aerator unit (Figs. 3-4, not shown) to the aquarium. |
