PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an image forming apparatus small-sized and to stably maintain cleaning performance over a long period of time. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has an image carrier, a blade member disposed in elastic contact with the image carrier, a semiconductor attached to the blade member, and a power supply device 49 which applies a voltage to the semiconductive member. The semiconductive member is separated from the contact area of the blade member with the image carrier by a given distance Lb. In this case, because the semiconductive member is attached to the blade member, conductive particles are prevented from entering the elastic material, for example, when the blade member is formed of an elastic material.
