PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a 4-hydroxy-2-(4-fluorophenylamino)-5,6-dimethylpyrimidine useful as a medicine technical product in short processes and a simple operation without requiring a specific reagent and apparatus. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 4-halogeno-2-(4-fluorophenylamino)-5,6-dimethylpyrimidine represented by formula 3 [wherein X in formula 3 is a halogen atom] comprises reacting 4-fluoroaniline with cyanamide under acidic conditions using 2-27 wt.% aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid, further reacting the reaction product with an alkali metal carbonate to provide (4-fluorophenyl)guanidine carbonate represented by formula 1, reacting the (4-fluorophenyl)guanidine carbonate with 2-methylacetoacetate to provide 4-hydroxy-2-(4-fluorophenylamino)-5,6-dimethylpyrimidine represented by formula 2 and then reacting the 4-hydroxy-2-(4-fluorophenylamino)-5,6-dimethylpyrimidine with a halogenating agent.
