PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a peel type blind rivet having a means for substantially preventing a mandrel head from being separated from a mounted shell and a means for retaining the mandrel head within a rivet shell body. SOLUTION: The peel type blind rivet 22 is provided for securement in a hole in a workpiece. The rivet includes a tubular shell 24 with a flange 26 at one end. The shell accommodates a mandrel stem 28 having the mandrel head 30 positioned at one end of the mandrel stem in such a manner as to abut the distal end of the tubular shell. The mandrel head 30 has a plurality of radially outwardly extending edges which engage the distal end of the shell upon the application of tensile load to the mandrel during operation, dividing the shell into a plurality of segments and engaging the rear of the workpiece. For this, the stem of the mandrel further includes at least one projection. The shell of the rivet body is deformed during mounting so that the mandrel head 30 is retained within the rivet mounted.
