A variety of small, piperidine or pyrrolidine derivatives of formulae IA, IIIA, IVA and VA, wherein the substituents are defined as in the claims, capable of acting as MC4-R agonists are provided. The compounds are useful in treating MC4-R mediated diseases and may bet formulated into pharmaceutical formulations and compositions.
