The running state and surrounding situation of the vehicle are measured and evaluated. From this evaluation, the collision probability with a detected obstacle is determined. A warning signal is given to the surroundings, when the collision probability with the obstacle exceeds a given value, which is less than 1. An Independent claim is included for corresponding vehicle equipment.
