PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical apparatus which can deal with the trends toward the higher luminance, smaller size and lower noise of the projector, can efficiently cool optical conversion films, and can improve the quality of composite images by preventing the pixel deviation between optical modulators. SOLUTION: The optical apparatus is provided with metallic cooling units 500 which are arranged between a liquid crystal panel 441 and a luminous flux incident end surface of a cross dichroic prism 443, have holding surfaces for spacing and holding polarizing plates 521 and 522 stuck with polarizing films and cool the polarizing films, pedestals 445 which are disposed on the top and under surfaces of the prism 443 and have cooling unit-joining surfaces 449A to be joined with the cooling units 500 and fixing members 600 which are disposed at the luminous flux incident end surface and position and fix the panel 441 to the luminous flux incident end surface. Joint surfaces 631 to be touched and joined with pin-like members 730 for installation of the panel 441 are formed at the fixing members 600. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
