PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflective coating material or substance which can impart various scattering characteristics including specular reflection characteristics to a substance directly or a coating material, and a method for application or fixing thereof. SOLUTION: The coating material is provided with various scattering characteristics including specular reflection characteristics by incorporating linked particles 103 into a coating medium 102 to be applied on an object 101 so as to utilize the specular resonance phenomenon of the double sphere system comprising a dielectric. The coating material is effective particularly as one for a road marking with high safety. A method for application of the coating material to give desired scattering characteristics is provided.
